We know of two permaculture farms in Cheshire, both on the outskirts of Weaverham, another in Warrington, and some other initiatives.
Mere Brow Farm Permaculture Project, Weaverham, Cheshire
Volunteering at Mere Brow Farm Permaculture and Forest Garden Project
They say:
About us - A Fledgling 13.5 acre farm in the heart of Cheshire being developed using permaculture principles. Our aim is to create an ecological system that is fun, educational, productive, diverse and sustainable with a combination of mixed woodland, orchard, hedging and edible forest. This isn’t a project we can do on our own however so we are looking for like-minded volunteers to help us deliver our vision. Initially we are looking for a small number of day volunteers and are especially keen to hear from you if you have permaculture experience/interest or general experience in volunteering on horticulture projects. However please don’t be put off if you don’t have experience – you may have a skill set that we need, whether that be woodworking, bee keeping or just general enthusiasm and energy! We plan all our days to be fun and want it to be just as much fun for our fabulous volunteers!

- Do I need experience? We welcome all volunteers but at the early stages of this project we are particularly looking for those with some experience of permaculture or volunteering on horticulture projects. Please do not be put off if you don’t have any relevant experience as there are jobs that will suit all levels of experience and ability.
- When can you volunteer? As our project matures the opportunities to volunteer will become more frequent. At present our Volunteering Day is every Thursday from 25th August 2016. Volunteering is from 10.00am – 16.00pm and we would encourage everyone to come for all of that time.
- What can I volunteer to do? A taste of things you can get involved in are; Greenhouse maintenance, weeding, cutting back of shrubs, clearing ivy from forest areas, collecting leaves, pine needles, mulching, turning of manure, tool maintenance, mowing lawns, slug control, collecting wood from fallen/felled trees, pruning and tree maintenance, building compost bin/treebog/bug hotels/bee hives, pest control management, survey land, record/map plant species, prepare/build paths, woodland design, preparing ground for winter tree planting, basic protective fencing, research and obtain green waste.
- How old do I need to be? You will need to be 18 or over. 16 -17 year olds are welcome but will need to be accompanied by an adult. No animals are allowed on site without prior agreement. We will consider groups of young people but please contact us in the first instance to discuss in person.
- Do I need to bring equipment with me? No, we will supply all the equipment you will need unless otherwise communicated to you.
- Will you provide food? Please bring some lunch and a drink with you. We will provide tea and coffee throughout the day. Toilet facilities are available in the main courtyard.
- Transport to Mere Brow? As part of our aim to be as carbon neutral as possible we would encourage all volunteers to use public transport, cycle, and, where this is not possible to car share. Limited parking is available on site and we would ask that you advise us in advance if you will require this.

Patch of the Planet, Grappenhall, Warrington
Patch of the Planet launched and helped coordinate the Warrington Permaculture Network – an open network of people and projects that are interested in or using permaculture in and around the Warrington area.
They also ran a monthly permaculture practise group in South Warrington (Grappenhall Walled Garden) where people worked together to learn about permaculture and transform a community space.
They design eco- and edible gardens. Website: http://www.patchoftheplanet.com/.
They're now moving to a self-sufficient smallholding in Pembrokeshire.
They're part of the Facebook group Warrington Permaculture Network.
